GlobalData sees AI driving Australia’s ultrasound systems market

AI-powered softwares can fast-track turnaround time and help produce consistent results.

Ultrasound imaging solutions backed by AI are expected to spur growth of Australia’s ultrasound market with their ability to automate procedures and still yield accurate analyses, according to data analytics firm GlobalData.

One of the recent innovations on the market is an AI-powered software that automatically analyzes and reports breast and thyroid ultrasound scans in Australia and New Zealand, developed by Australia-based firm See-Mode Technologies.

“The integration of AI with ultrasound technologies will not only aid radiologists but also reduce turnaround time. Additionally, AI-backed analysis is expected to improvise diagnostic accuracy in the detection of breast and thyroid tissue abnormalities,” said Satyajeet Salunkhe, a medical devices analyst at the research firm.

See-Mode’s system can automate complex medical imaging analysis in routine clinical practice for a more efficient workflow, he said.

It also increases the reliability of reporting and helps avoid human errors in image interpretation for a more consistent analysis of images, with the aid of advanced computational modeling techniques and deep learning.

“For breast and thyroid tissues, See-Mode provides a classification of lesions in clinical images as per BI-RADS and TI-RADS rating systems which help in risk assessment and stratification,” GlobalData said, adding that the software can also automate identification of other vascular pathologies such as occlusion, refluxes and stenosis.

The ultrasound systems market accounted for 14.8% of Australia’s diagnostic imaging market in 2022 according to the research firm.
