Seoul National University Hospital trials ‘ERAS’ in gastric cancer surgery

A randomised controlled clinical trial was conducted with 92 patients.

Researchers at Seoul National University Hospital have implemented the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) programme for patients undergoing laparoscopic or robotic gastric cancer surgery.

The ERAS programme focuses on minimally invasive gastric cancer surgery adapted to the domestic clinical environment.

A randomised controlled clinical trial was conducted with 92 patients who underwent laparoscopic or robotic distal gastrectomy between February 2023 and May 2024.

Gastric cancer is the fourth most common cancer in Korea, whilst radical resection remains the primary treatment, particularly for early-stage cases or when lymph node metastasis is present.
