Southeast Asia’s healthtech startups garner $1.5b in funding in five years

The sector experienced a funding peak of $515m in 2023.

Southeast Asia’s (SEA) healthtech startup sector has garnered approximately $1.5b in funding over the past five years, representing over 87% of the total capital raised in the industry to date, said Tracxn.

The report revealed that the sector’s startup ecosystem experienced a funding peak of $515m in 2023.

This growth was attributed to early-stage investments, which accounted for $308m of the total funding.

Moreover, the post-pandemic period has seen a steady rise in funding for the sector, culminating in the 2023 peak.

“However, other top segments in this space, such as healthcare booking platforms, employee health IT, and fitness & wellness tech, saw a notable increase only in 2021, after which funding started to decline,” the report said.

On average, it takes a healthtech startup 2.8 years to raise seed funding from the time of its founding.
