Burjeel, Roswell Park to set up thoracic surgery service in UAE
It aims to reduce the need for patients to travel overseas.
Burjeel Medical City (BMC) has entered into a clinical and academic collaboration with New York-based Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Centre to establish a specialised thoracic surgery programme in the UAE.
It combines Roswell Park’s clinical protocols, multidisciplinary expertise, and academic capabilities with BMC’s infrastructure, oncology services, and network.
In line with this, BMC will establish a dedicated thoracic surgery service, aiming to reduce the need for patients from the UAE and wider Middle East abd North Afrit region to travel overseas.
The program will offer robot-assisted, video-assisted thoracoscopic, and conventional open procedures based on clinical needs.
Additionally, it will be integrated into the multidisciplinary care of Burjeel Cancer Institute (BCI), bringing together thoracic surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pulmonology, pathology, and radiology.
The institutions will also collaborate on clinical protocol development, scientific programmes, educational activities, faculty engagement, clinician exchanges, and professional development.
