Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi debuts wireless heart‑failure monitoring implant

It tracks arterial blood pressure.

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has become the first hospital in the emirate to implant a wireless pulmonary artery sensor for remote monitoring of chronic heart failure patients.

The hospital said in a press release that the device, placed in the pulmonary artery, continuously tracks arterial blood pressure and transmits data to the care team.

The procedure takes one to two hours under local anaesthesia and mild sedation, performed in the hospital's cardiac catheterisation lab.

Patients are monitored for four to 24 hours post-implantation, with some discharged the same day, and most resume normal activity within one to two days.

Georges-Pascal Haber, CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, said the technology allows proactive monitoring and earlier intervention rather than waiting for hospitalisation.
