Singapore researchers develop AI-powered 3D imaging for skin cancer mgmt

The technique produces real-time, high-resolution images of skin tumours.

Researchers from the Agency for Science, Technology and Research and the National Healthcare Group have developed a new 3D imaging technique to improve skin cancer management.

The technique combines multispectral optoacoustic tomography with artificial intelligence to support the diagnosis and treatment of basal cell carcinoma, the most common form of skin cancer worldwide.

Moreover, it employs photoacoustic imaging alongside an automated segmentation algorithm to produce real-time, high-resolution 3D images of skin tumours.

These images allow clinicians to more accurately determine tumour boundaries, reducing the likelihood of repeat procedures and improving surgical outcomes.
