Australian gov’t launches body-worn camera trial for hospital security
The trial has commenced in Royal North Shore Hospital.
The Australian government in New South Wales (NSW) has started a 12-month trial of body-worn cameras for security staff in Royal North Shore Hospital.
Security will activate the cameras in cases of aggression or violence where there is a risk of harm. The trial will determine the technology's effectiveness in deterring and de-escalating incidents.
The trial will be independently evaluated upon completion to determine its impact on hospital safety and inform future decisions on broader implementation.
Following its launch, the trial will expand to a total of 15 hospitals across Sydney, the Central Coast, the Hunter, the Illawarra, the Mid North Coast, New England, Northern NSW and Western NSW.
