Australia to invest $13.6m for First Nations maternity care

One key area includes the expansion of the “Growing Deadly Families” initiative.

The Australian government will invest $13.6m (A$20m) to develop care models that offer First Nations women personalised, continuous, and safe maternity services.

One key area includes the expansion of the “Growing Deadly Families” initiative, with new programmes to be established in Mount Isa, Redcliffe, and Mareeba. Additionally, a co-design project with the Palm Island community is planned for Townsville.

The funding will also allow more Hospital and Health Services and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Organisations to implement co-designed models of care within their communities.
