Digital Implantology, Dentway’s route to minimal bleeding from implant surgery
Taiwan’s dental hospital guarantees full recovery from stitchless procedures in a week or two — even for diabetics.
Taiwan’s first and only dental hospital, Dentway International Dental Group, has implemented a digital dental procedure that reduces surgical wounds during dental implants, which benefits diabetes patients who experience a slow healing process for wounds.
Dentway International Dental Hospital uses digital dental implant surgery, which is a less complicated and advanced process because it only needs to take a small amount of gingival (gums) before placing the dental implant into the bone.
With this procedure, patients with high blood pressure and diabetes do not need to worry about excessive bleeding because the wound is similar to the size of the dental implant. The amount of bleeding will be low or close to none at all.
“Most of the flapless procedure does not require suture (stitches) since the wound is almost the same size as the dental implant,” explained Chu Yin Nan, education and training specialist at Dentway International Dental Group, during an interview with Healthcare Asia at the Healthcare+ Expo 2023 in Taiwan.
Chu said that this procedure could replace traditional dental implant surgery, which needs to cut a large amount of gingival (gums) to create a gingival flap before dental implant placement. After which, a suture or stitching is required because the dentist needs to close up the flap to heal.
Dental Implants are where we replace tooth roots with screw-like metal posts and replace damaged or missing teeth with artificial teeth.
“Dental implants are surgically positioned into your jawbone. Once the dental implant is embedded, Osseointegration will take place for three months allowing the bone and dental implant to form a very strong bond to hold it in place,” explained Chu.
Detailed diagnosis
For traditional implants, diagnosis is not as precise compared with advanced 3D X-rays due to using 2D X-rays for diagnosing a patient’s missing tooth.
With digital implant tech, X-rays were upgraded to 3D, which means it can “diagnose patients’ alveolar bone dimension, height, and density,” said Chu.
“Using digital can give us more detailed information about the patients so that dentists have much more detailed treatment planning,” Chu pointed out.
Faster recovery
With reduced bleeding, digital implants encourage faster recovery time, according to Chu. Recovery for soft tissues will take about one week but traditional implants, which implement sutures or stitches, take two weeks of recovery.
“Patients will be less worried since it does not affect their daily lives after surgery. Patients can just come back after three months (Osseointegration) since suture is not needed at all,” said Chu.
For the past three decades, Dentway International Dental Group has created a one-stop integration that includes clinics and hospitals, dental materials, a digital dental lab, digital medical image integration, a pharmacy, medical management, and an education center.
The hospital also seeks to lead digital dentistry in Taiwan by bringing advanced digital tech and skills as well as continuing to create new advanced technology in the dental industry.
