Genomics breakthroughs fuel growth in China’s next-generation sequencers market

China accounted for nearly 32% of APAC’s next-generation sequencers market in 2025.

The next-generation sequencers market in China is projected to expand at a 9% compound annual growth rate from 2026 to 2036 as genomics research advances, according to GlobalData. 

The report found that China accounted for nearly 32% of the Asia-Pacific (APAC) next-generation sequencers market in 2025.

Chinese biotechnology company MGI Tech has recently acquired STOmics and CycloneSEQ to expand its capabilities in spatial biology and nanopore sequencing. 

STOmics contributes spatial multi-omics capabilities through its Stereo-seq platform, enabling high-resolution spatial analysis of gene expression across large tissue sections.

Meanwhile, CycloneSEQ develops nanopore sequencing platforms for long-read sequencing, including the G100-ER system for smaller-scale use and the higher-throughput G400-ER system.
