Australia to invest $20.1m in rural and regional aged care workforce

The initiative aims to support over 6,000 workers.

The Australian government is investing $20.1m (A$30.8m) to attract and support over 6,000 extra-skilled aged care workers in rural and regional Australia.

In a statement, approximately $13.4m (A$20.5m) will be allocated to the ‘Regional, Rural and Remote Home Care Workforce Support Program’.

The initiative will help attract, train, and retain home care workers, supporting up to 4,000 more personal care workers to deliver services and advance their careers.

Meanwhile, $6.7m (A$10.3m) will be invested in the ‘Aged Care Transition to Practice Program’ to train up to 2,125 registered and enrolled nurses in providing specialised care for older people and to support workforce recruitment in aged care.
