Qatar's health expenditure to be valued at $11.5b by 2029

However, overall opportunities will be limited compared to other regional markets.

Qatar's total health expenditure is projected to reach a market value of $11.5b by 2029 at a compound annual growth rate of 14%, according to BMI.

The sector’s expansion positions the country as the third-largest healthcare market in the Gulf Cooperation Council and the 10th-largest in the Middle East and North Africa.

A key driver of this growth is the expected rise in private healthcare expenditure, fuelled by Qatar's high per capita health expenditure relative to other emerging markets.

In addition, private healthcare is expected to benefit from public-private partnerships, exemplified by the opening of the private Surgi Art Hospital.

However, the country’s overall opportunities compared to other regional markets will be relatively limited.

“This is partly due to the smaller population size of Qatar, which limits potential demand growth, combined with only moderate real GDP growth forecast by our Country Risk Team over the short-term,” BMI said.
