The global infrared thermometers market is projected to increase by $1.05b between 2024 and 2028, according to a report by Technavio. 

The market is anticipated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of over 18.05% during this period, primarily due to the rising prevalence of contagious and chronic diseases and increased demand for passenger screening in airports.

The airline industry is experiencing significant growth in air passenger traffic, necessitating enhanced security and hygiene protocols. Infrared thermometers have also  become vital for detecting fever, a key symptom of COVID-19. 

The report said that airlines worldwide are implementing these devices at checkpoints to curb disease transmission, a trend expected to continue.

The surge in infectious diseases, such as malaria and dengue, is further boosting the demand for non-contact thermometers, which are favored for their convenience. These devices are commonly used in healthcare settings for ear and forehead temperature readings. Distribution channels include hospital and retail pharmacies, online stores, and various medical sectors.

Despite the growth prospects, challenges remain. High costs, ranging from $300 to $1,100, limit adoption in developing countries, where liquid-filled thermometers priced between $1 and $15 are more popular. 

Additionally, concerns about eye damage from infrared radiation and the environmental impact of mercury thermometers pose challenges.
