Australia to invest $38.4m for expanded paediatric health services

This includes a range of investments and the expansion of the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children.

The Australian government is set to invest $38.4m (A$57.6m) as part of the 2024-25 budget to deliver more paediatric health services in hospitals and the community.

“The total investment in health next year is $1.7b (A$2.6b), growing from $1.5b (A$2.3b) in 2023-24. This is delivering more health services, infrastructure and support for the health workforce,” ACT Chief Minister, Andrew Barr, said.

The budget includes a range of investments for paediatric services and the expansion of the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children.

Meanwhile, Canberra Hospital will see funding for eight inpatient beds and the establishment of a new paediatric critical care team to provide better coordination, support, and upskilling of existing staff in this area.

Moreover, approximately $12m (A$18m) is set to fund additional costs in Canberra Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit and special care nursery to support critically unwell newborns.

“This Government is committed to delivering health services for children, adolescents and their families where and when they need it,” Barr added.
