Medtronic soars at Healthcare Asia Medtech Awards 2024 with three wins

It took home the Marketing & Communications Initiative of the Year - Singapore, Hospital Partnership of the Year - Malaysia, and Digital Innovation of the Year - Philippines.

Healthcare technology company Medtronic clinched three major titles at the coveted Healthcare Asia Medtech Awards for several of its initiatives that aim to bring to light health issues and how medical technology can provide aid.

Amongst these initiatives is the first-in-Medtronic APAC 360-degree stroke public awareness campaign introduced by Medtronic Singapore, involving lifestyle influencers, employees, doctors, and patients through a mix of traditional and digital media channels. According to the company, knowing how to respond to and how stroke can be treated is an equally crucial message—one that young caregivers and adults need to hear.

This campaign complemented the national initiative on stroke through its education on F.A.S.T., stroke prevention, and treatment methods. It reached 10.1 million people through traditional media and garnered 250,000 impressions. Three lifestyle influencers with 610,000 combined followers also engaged in the campaign.

“With strict medtech regulations in APAC, stroke campaigns have traditionally been dry and unappealing to younger audiences. We needed a campaign beyond traditional stroke education with bite-sized info to attract them, whilst keeping them engaged,” the company said.

Meanwhile, Southeast Asia’s largest cardiac centre Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) partnered with Medtronic Malaysia to set up a centre of excellence in cardiovascular health to bring about a holistic approach towards cardiovascular care. The partnership involves joint capacity-building efforts through introducing new therapies and providing training around cardiac and vascular diseases.

Apart from local engagement, the training programme also facilitates regional collaboration and engagement across Southeast Asia countries. In addition to training and education, the partnership also focusses on clinical research to drive innovation, and public awareness of cardiovascular diseases to achieve patient-centric excellence.

“The collaboration between IJN and Medtronic is a catalyst for transformative change in the healthcare landscape. Through enhancing R&D and driving innovation, we place patients at the heart of healthcare delivery,” the company said.

Medtronic Philippines, on the other hand, commits itself to improving the future of diabetes management through next-generation sensors, intelligent dosing systems, as well as the power of data science and AI, whilst putting patient experience at the forefront.

In September 2023, it brought in and launched its innovative insulin pump MiniMed 780G System with an advanced hybrid closed loop system (AHCLS) to help type 1 diabetes patients focus more on life.

The MiniMed 780G System features self-adjusting technology, providing real-time insulin adjustments and corrections which more closely mirrors the average glucose of someone not living with diabetes. Patients can also monitor their blood glucose levels with no finger-sticks required with the system’s new guardian 4 sensor – which sends sugar levels to the pump every five minutes, eliminating the need for painful and uncomfortable finger pricks when using auto mode.

Medtronic brought home the Marketing & Communications Initiative of the Year - Singapore, Hospital Partnership of the Year - Malaysia, and the Digital Innovation of the Year - Philippines category wins for its innovative campaigns and technology.
