Reem Hospital bags two Healthcare Asia awards for 2021

The Hospital takes home the Home Care Initiative of the Year and Specialty Hospital of the Year awards.

Being recognised as the first purpose-built post-acute rehabilitation Hospital in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been one of the key moments of pride for Reem Hospital. This high-end hospital's sole purpose of giving every patient world-class care throughout their healthcare journey is enabled by (1) bringing international expertise of globally renowned rehabilitation operator, VAMED, to a local setting, (2) employing a best-in-class clinical team that offers compassionate and outcomes-driven care, and (3) engaging advanced medical technology and AI tracking and programming systems.

The end result of these efforts—among many accomplishments—is being recognised by earning two 2021 Healthcare Asia Awards, one for Home Care Initiative of the Year and the other as Specialty Hospital of the Year in the United Arab Emirates.

Reem Hospital, the newest hospital in Abu Dhabi premier Middle Eastern destination for post-acute rehabilitation, is a portfolio company of Investcorp, a leading global provider and manager of alternative investment products. Reem Hospital stands for innovation, value-based healthcare through an integrated approach measured by transparent outcomes and patient satisfaction. This conviction has never been more relevant than through its contributions during the global pandemic, where in the face of the challenges arising from this health crisis, the hospital's opening date was delayed due to construction and transportation delays.

Rather than surrendering to circumstances, Reem Hospital worked with the Department of Health and the biggest healthcare provider in the UAE (Abu Dhabi Health Services Corporation) to provide a full gamut of services from telemedicine to homecare and from inpatient to post-acute care.

COVID-19 Inpatient Care

Without a hospital being activated in 2020, any provider would have found the ability to manage COVID-19 patients challenging, if not impossible. However, Reem sought out to rent another new, yet unlicensed hospital to commission and license within an unprecedented 15 days, thus serving the burgeoning demand when the need for COVID inpatient care was at its peak.

Notably, this work was done pro bono to step up when the community was in its most vulnerable need. Ultimately, Reem Hospital is proud to have served over 300 patients through its COVID-19 inpatient care initiative.

Home Care - Beyond Inpatient Care

As the pandemic charged on, the Department of Health activated systematic home isolation (those identified with COVID-19) and home quarantine (from travel or tracer) programs in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Reem Hospital was one of the very first providers to offer these services. Reem proudly executed nearly 10,000 activities, including telemedicine, home care visits, and home phlebotomy services.

Transitioning to Post-COVID Care

As the needs of the healthcare system changed, so as Reem Hospital’s direction to post-acute care for post-COVID-19 patients. The Hospital was in sync and agile enough to quickly pivot and transition where the next need was. Equipped with a full multidisciplinary post-acute services team, Reem Hospital opened its doors to serve 200 post-COVID patients requiring post-acute rehabilitative and long-term care.

Abu Dhabi, which is a key supporter of vaccine research, was one of the first governments to be supplied with COVID-19 vaccines. A shift of focus from treatment to preventive measures ensued, and on this front once again Reem Hospital was one of the first providers to offer Sinopharm vaccines to the community, extending to outreach for offshore and into communities.

Reem Hospital's philosophy can be summed up in one sentence: With compassion and innovation being the heart and soul of everything that they do, their one and only goal is to bring their patients back to vitality. As the world changes and the pandemic surges on, Reem will continue to work on their vision of providing world-class clinical care pathways and programs to become the leading and most trusted hospital in the UAE.

Chairman Zaid Al Siksek unveiled how they are able to support the government's initiatives, and deliver efficient and effective home-care programs.
