Rising diabetes cases propel APAC's advance wound dressing market

In India, 15% of diabetes patients suffer from foot ulcers.

A rapid rise in the population of patients suffering from diabetes is expected to strengthen the demand for the advanced wound dressing market in Asia Pacific, where it is projected to reach $1.64b by 2027 at a CAGR of 6.2%, a report from Fortune Business Insights revealed.

China is expected to dominate the market during the period, where it saw the highest number of diabetic cases in the world with nearly 116 million active cases in 2019, according to data from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), in 2019, the country recorded the highest.

Further, a study published by the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research found that 15% of the diabetic patients suffer from diabetic foot ulcers in India.

The rising prevalence of chronic wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, venous leg ulcers, and other issues caused by several diseases, are also expected to drive the market’s growth, the report stated.

However, the reimbursement policies for wound dressing do not cover the whole cost of the treatment. The cost associated with these dressings are also higher in the region compared to other parts of the world, the report stated.

Advanced wound dressings include alginate dressings, hydrogel dressings, collagen dressings, film dressings, hydrocolloid dressings, antimicrobial dressings, foam dressings, and others.
