Johor Hospital completes first robotic surgery for endometrial cancer
The procedure used fluorescence imaging to identify the correct lymph nodes.
Malaysia’s Johor Specialist Hospital (JSH) has performed its first robotic-assisted hysterectomy with sentinel node biopsy for a patient with early-stage endometrial cancer.
The surgery utilised a robotic system to remove the uterus whilst identifying and sampling the “sentinel” lymph nodes, which are the first nodes that may show signs of cancer spread
The procedure used fluorescence imaging to identify the correct lymph nodes.
“For patients, it can mean fewer complications and a smoother recovery, whilst still giving us the information we need to plan treatment,” said Ahmad Shuib Yahaya, Consultant Gynaecologic Oncologist at JSH.
