Commissioning and testing of the new MRI equipment are currently underway.
A new MRI machine has been installed at Wollongong Hospital under a $14.4m (A$21.9m) investment to upgrade health services and infrastructure in the Illawarra region.
The additional MRI will help deliver diagnostic services for a wider range of patients, including those requiring breast imaging, biopsy services, and cardiac imaging.
Meanwhile, commissioning and testing of the new MRI equipment are currently underway, with radiographers and nurses set to receive training before operations begin.
The new medical imaging facilities will be located across two levels, with the CT scanner near the Emergency Department on Level One.
Work on the expanded medical imaging department is expected to be complete in early 2026.
