New medical ambulatory care unit opens in Wollongong Hospital

It is designed for patients following an emergency department stay or admission.

A new medical ambulatory care (MAC) unit has opened in Wollongong Hospital, funded through a $14.3m (A$21.9m) investment by the New South Wales Government in Australia.

The MAC unit provides care for patients following an emergency department stay or hospital admission.

Services include blood and immunoglobulin transfusions and infusions to manage symptoms of acute medical conditions such as multiple sclerosis, chronic kidney disease, and irritable bowel syndrome.

The facility has been relocated to Level 8 in Block C, with its former ground-floor location on Hospital Street now used to expand the transit lounge.

Meanwhile, a new MRI and CT scanner and supporting infrastructure will be delivered to the hospital and are expected to be completed in 2026.
