Philippine health insurer reassures members amidst budget standoff

Government workers may be hardest hit.

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has assured government workers of continued healthcare coverage despite a delay in the passage of the country’s national budget.

The move comes after the Department of Budget and Management earlier revealed that payment for PhilHealth premium was among the excluded items in the proposed 2019 budget. The government is now running under a re-enacted budget.

“We assure our members and their dependents from the public sector that they will continue to enjoy their benefits despite the pending approval of the national budget, which is beyond our control,” PhilHealth acting president Roy Ferrer said in a statement.
