Taiwan's NTUH opens APAC hub to advance histotripsy cancer treatment

It will establish standardised training programmes.

National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) has opened the Asia-Pacific Histotripsy Training Centre for Cancer Treatment, aiming to advance minimally invasive oncology interventions.

According to NTUH, the technology utilises high-intensity focused ultrasound to generate dense microbubble clouds, fragmenting and liquefying tumour tissues.

The centre will establish standardised training programmes to provide technical education for healthcare providers to safely and effectively adopt histotripsy technology.

Second, it will continue to advance research in difficult-to-treat cancers and expand the clinical applications of histotripsy for complex tumours.

Additionally, the centre will establish a regional research platform for non-invasive cancer therapy.

Simultaneously, the hospital signed a Memorandum of Understanding with United States-based HistoSonics, a company focused on ultrasound histotripsy technology.
