New Korean medical model reduces reliance on foreign AI systems
The system incorporates domestic laws, clinical guidelines, and care pathways.
Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) and Naver have unveiled KMed.ai, a large language model (LLM) designed for the Korean medical sector.
The model aims to reduce dependence on foreign general-purpose AI systems by providing a locally optimised solution for medical applications, according to SNUH.
The system is tailored to the country’s healthcare environment, incorporating domestic medical laws, clinical guidelines, and care pathways.
It is designed to assist in clinical documentation analysis, medical reasoning, and the integration of decision-making workflows.
Before its launch, SNUH had previously developed an initial Korean medical LLM in March 2025. The new system combines the hospital’s early development work and clinician feedback with Naver’s AI technology.
Meanwhile, the hospital is also building a medical-specialised agent platform designed to help improve efficiency amongst its staff.
