Modest gains seen in male infertility pharma
It is expected to register a 2.9% CAGR between 2025 and 2035.
The male infertility pharmaceutical market across the seven major markets (7MM)—the US, five European countries, and Japan—is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 2.9% between 2025 and 2035, according to GlobalData.
In its “Male Infertility: Disease Analysis and Forecast” report, market growth is linked to rising awareness of male reproductive health and population expansion.
It noted that the most advanced pipeline candidate, pentoxifylline, is unlikely to materially affect the market.
“However, the overall impact on the market will be minimal, with estimated sales of only $179,660 in the 7MM in 2035. It is unlikely to displace the existing therapeutic options,” it said.
Current treatment options include gonadotropins such as menotropin, chorionic gonadotropin, and urofollitropin, alongside clomiphene citrate and mesterolone, which are available as generics.
David Beauchamp, Pharma Analyst at GlobalData, said pharmacological treatments continue to compete with assisted reproductive technologies, which remain widely used.
“There is a severe lack of understanding of the mechanisms causing male infertility, and clinical trials are sparse and poorly funded,” Beauchamp added.
