India to establish day care cancer centres in all district hospitals
200 centres will be set up in 2025-26.
The Indian government is set to establish day care cancer centres in all district hospitals over the next three years.
As part of the initiative, 200 centres will be set up in 2025-26, to decentralise cancer treatment and reduce the burden on tertiary care hospitals.
About 100 out of every 100,000 (1 lakh) people are diagnosed with cancer in the country.
“According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, the estimated number of incidences of cancer cases was more than 1.4 million (14 lakhs) in 2023 in India,” the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.
