IHH and Para Athletics Singapore ink MOU for sponsored athlete healthcare
The healthcare benefits for local para-athletes amount to over S$200,000 yearly.
The IHH Healthcare Singapore and Para-Athletics Singapore signed a two-year corporate responsibility deal that will improve the healthcare experience of Singapore's para-athletes of all levels.
Under the memorandum of understanding, the PAS athletes will get quick and complimentary access to healthcare services such as nutrition consultancy, physiotherapy, medical assessments, investigations and treatment amounting to approximately S$200,000 per year.
As part of the MOU, IHH SG is sponsoring 60 physiotherapy sessions, 24 occupational therapy sessions, 12 podiatry sessions, diagnostic imaging, and blood tests per annum.
The PAS and IHH SG will collaborate on educational initiatives and relevant programmes for the well-being of the para-athletes. Athletes will be able to arrange for a consultation with IHH SG within a week’s notice, which usually takes months if they consult other healthcare providers.
“We are confident that this MOU will enhance the performance of our para-athletes, especially our next generation of aspiring sportsmen and women, and allow them to better focus on maximising their sporting potential," said Dr Peter Chow, Acting Chief Executive Officer, of IHH SG, adding that he encourages members of the community to support athletes.
