China’s ophthalmic laser market is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of approximately 4% through 2033, according to GlobalData.
The sector’s expansion is attributed to advancements in femtosecond and excimer lasers for refractive surgery and the rising prevalence of eye diseases like myopia.
The country accounted for 25% of the Asia-Pacific market in 2024, due to the rising number of patients with eye diseases and significant investments in laser technology.
“The advent of advanced laser techniques, coupled with hospital modernisation, and increased R&D investment, is contributing to the increased accessibility and demand for advanced ophthalmic care,” said Shamreen Parween, Medical Devices Analyst at GlobalData.
“The future of laser-based refractive surgery appears promising due to the advancements in personalised treatments, minimally invasive procedures, artificial intelligence integration, and enhanced accessibility,” Parween added.
