Burjeel Medical City, under the guidance of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), has administered Givosiran for the first time in the United Arab Emirates.
The medication was administered to a 21-year-old Emirati with acute intermittent hepatic porphyria, a rare genetic disorder that leads to the accumulation of toxic metabolites in the liver.
The treatment is delivered as a monthly injection, using small interfering RNA (siRNA) technology to lower toxic metabolite levels, said Asma Al Mannaei, Executive Director of the Health Life Science Sector at the DoH— Abu Dhabi.
