Barwon Women’s and Children’s project moves forward with design reveal

It is set to be built within Barwon Health’s University Hospital Geelong precinct.

The Australian government has unveiled the designs for the new Barwon Women’s and Children’s Health Infrastructure project, valued at over $336.2m (A$500m).

The project is set to be built within Barwon Health’s University Hospital Geelong precinct. Its designs provide an early look at a new maternity ward, inpatient rooms and play spaces.

Meanwhile, the facility is expected to include additional multi-day beds, birthing suites, operating theatres, and outpatient clinic rooms. A new neonatal and parent care unit will also expand the capacity to care for sick and pre-term infants in their first weeks of life.

The new Barwon Women’s and Children’s is slated for completion in 2029 with final designs expected later this year. Meanwhile, main construction works are set to begin shortly after.
