Australia allocates $308m to health-relate research projects, new grants
A total of 110 research projects will receive funds.
The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) of Australia is allotting a total of $308m (A$475m) for health and medical research projects, and new grant opportunities, according to the Department of Health and Aged Care.
Of the amount, around $149.2m (A$230m) will be dedicated to research covering 110 projects on various medical issues such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, dementia, cognitive decline, mental health, and respiratory disease.
Broken down, $4.2m (A$6.5m) will be for clinical trials activity, $29.2m (A$45m) for clinician researchers initiative, $28.1m (A$43.3m) for early to mid-career researchers, $32.4m (A$50m) for medical research commercialisation, $31.1m (A$47.9m) for preventive and public health research, and $23.5m (A$36.2m) for rapid allied research translation.

Meanwhile, $158.9m (A$245m) will be allocated to new grant opportunities which include the 2024 BioMedTech Incubator, 2024 Cardiovascular Health, $29.1m (A$44.8m) for the 2024 Early to Mid-Career Researchers, and $8.7m (A$13.4m) for 2024 Indigenous Health Research.
The new grant opportunity also covers $15.4m (A$23.7m) for 2023 Innovative Trials, around $13m (A$20m) for 2024 Paediatric Brain Cancer Research, and $13m (A$20m) for the 2024 Survivorship Care and Collaborative Research Prioritisation.
