$173m Austin Hospital emergency department upgrades now underway

Main works are expected to be completed by 2028.

Work on the upgrades to Austin Hospital’s emergency department is now underway, following the release of its new designs, said the Australian government.

The $173m (A$275m) investment will fund the construction of a three-level facility, adding 29 new emergency treatment spaces, an upgraded short-stay unit, and enhanced clinical administration areas.

Early works have already begun, with main construction set to start later this year and be completed by 2028.
