Rising osteoarthritis cases drive expansion of India’s hip implant market
India held about 8% share of APAC hip replacement market in 2025
India’s hip replacement devices market is expanding steadily, driven by rising osteoarthritis cases, an ageing population, and growing use of advanced orthopaedic technologies.
According to GlobalData, the country’s primary hip replacement devices segment is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 10% through 2036. India held about 8% of the Asia-Pacific hip replacement market in 2025, the firm noted.
“The increasing adoption of hip replacement devices in India is driven by the growing burden of degenerative joint disorders, rising geriatric population, and greater awareness amongst patients regarding mobility restoration and quality-of-life improvement,” said Prerna Gupta, medical devices analyst at GlobalData.
She added that advances in implant materials, robotic-assisted surgery, and expanding orthopaedic infrastructure are further supporting market growth.
In product developments, Stryker launched the Trident II Acetabular System in India in April 2026 to support total hip arthroplasty procedures.
The system features Tritanium In-Growth Technology, PureFix HA coating, and X3 crosslinked polyethylene to improve implant fixation, wear resistance, and durability. It is also compatible with Mako SmartRobotics and includes a modular dual mobility design aimed at improving stability and reducing dislocation risk.
“Although affordability and limited access to advanced orthopaedic procedures in non-urban regions remain challenges, innovations such as Stryker’s Trident II Acetabular System are expected to strengthen surgeon confidence and support increased uptake of modern hip arthroplasty technique in India over time,” Gupta said.
