Accurate diagnostics demand spurs rapid expansion of India’s MRI systems
AI tools make scans faster and smarter.
The 1.5T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems market in India is growing rapidly as hospitals and diagnostic centres seek more accurate and efficient imaging solutions.
According to GlobalData, the market is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 11% through 2036, with India accounting for nearly 22% of the Asia-Pacific MRI market in 2025.
“The expanding adoption of 1.5T MRI systems in India is driven by the need for reliable, cost-effective diagnostic imaging solutions that support clinicians in managing neurological, musculoskeletal, and oncological conditions,” said Sarvesh Kumar, medical devices analyst at GlobalData.
“As diagnostic facilities upgrade equipment and incorporate innovations such as AI-assisted imaging workflows, trust in advanced MRI technology is expected to grow further over the forecast period,” he added.
The report also noted that domestic innovation is also rising.
At the IRIA 2026 Annual Conference in Hyderabad, Wipro GE Healthcare launched the SIGNA Prime Elite, an AI-powered, Made-in-India MRI system. It reduces scan times by up to 37%, improves patient comfort with wider bores and blanket-style coils, and is manufactured at Wipro GE’s PLI facility in India.
“The outlook for India’s 1.5T MRI systems market remains robust as both clinical demand and technological innovation continue to rise,” said Kumar. “Locally manufactured, AI-enabled solutions that deliver high performance, ease of use, and improved patient experience are likely to accelerate adoption across radiology departments and imaging centres, creating sustained opportunities for manufacturers and healthcare providers alike.”
