India opens advanced mother‑and‑child, neuroscience centres at PGIMER

It also laid the foundation stone for a 150-bed Critical Care Block.

India has unveiled its Advanced Mother and Child Centre and Advanced Neurosciences Centre at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.

The Advanced Neurosciences Centre, built at $50m (₹440 crore), expands PGIMER's neurology and neurosurgery capacity to 300 beds, it said in a press release.

This comes as institutional deliveries account for over 90% of births in India, according to national health data cited by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

Accordingly, maternal mortality has fallen by 86%, and infant mortality has also declined substantially.

The government also laid the foundation stone for a 150-bed Critical Care Block under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission scheme.
