AU’s Royal North Shore expands cancer trials access with new unit

It was funded by a $13.8m (AU$20m) gift.

The early phase unit of the NORTH STAR Van Norton Poche Cancer Trials Centre officially opened at Royal North Shore Hospital, expanding access to the latest cancer therapies across New South Wales (NSW).

The unit was funded by a US$13.8m (AU$20m) gift, whilst NSW Health provided the ward space and infrastructure.

Initial trials are already underway for patients with lung and brain cancer, with additional trials planned for a broader range of cancers.

Minister for Medical Research David Harris said the facility is expected to help patients across NSW, with a focus on partnerships with rural and regional hospitals.
