Asan Medical Centre deploys private AI for data protection
Private AI models are operated exclusively on an organisation’s internal servers.
Asan Medical Centre has deployed a Private Artificial Intelligence (AI) Knowledge Retrieval System operating within an isolated, closed network environment with no connection to the external internet.
According to the hospital, private AI models are operated exclusively on an organisation’s internal servers without transmitting data to external cloud services.
At the core of the system is the integration of a vector database with Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), an AI architecture that combines information retrieval with generative AI capabilities.
RAG requires AI to generate responses based on actual documents stored in the database rather than creating answers solely from its internal knowledge.
The hospital noted that this approach prevents AI hallucinations, in which a model produces plausible but inaccurate information without supporting evidence.
“This enables Asan Medical Centre to leverage generative AI whilst ensuring data protection, with patient information never leaving Asan Medical Centre’s internal network,” the press release said.
Additionally, healthcare professionals no longer need to search through extensive clinical guidelines or operational regulations manually.
