Soeradji Tirtonegoro Hospital secured a double victory at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2026, winning both the Smart Hospital Initiative of the Year - Indonesia and Health and Wellness Initiative of the Year - Indonesia. The twin accolades recognise the hospital’s leadership in advancing digital transformation whilst extending healthcare beyond traditional hospital walls into the heart of local communities.

Redefining digital healthcare

Launched in 2020, Smart Hospital Indonesia represents a significant step toward building a fully integrated, data-driven healthcare ecosystem. Developed by RSUP Dr Soeradji Tirtonegoro, the platform combines advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities with electronic health records (EHR) to replace fragmented, paper-based systems with a unified digital infrastructure.

At its core, the system functions as an intelligent clinical co-pilot. By integrating real-time patient data with the latest medical research and clinical guidelines, it supports physicians in generating patient summaries, developing therapy programmes, and improving casemix classification. This reduces administrative burdens whilst enhancing diagnostic accuracy and patient safety.

The impact has been tangible. Clinical workflows have become more streamlined, information retrieval has become significantly faster, and resource utilisation has become more efficient. With clinicians spending less time on documentation, more attention can be devoted to direct patient care. Additionally, the platform’s big data analytics capability supports epidemiological research and proactive health interventions, positioning the hospital at the forefront of predictive and preventive care.

Looking ahead, the hospital plans to incorporate predictive analytics, diagnostic imaging analysis, telemedicine, and remote monitoring into the system. Integration with national health platforms is also planned, reinforcing its ambition to contribute to large-scale medical research and strengthen Indonesia’s digital health ecosystem.

Extending care into the community

Complementing its digital innovation is the hospital’s community-driven initiative, Soeradji Wellness Aquatic Therapy (SWAT), which earned the Health and Wellness Initiative of the Year - Indonesia award.

Developed in response to the challenge of expanding wellness and rehabilitative services beyond hospital facilities, SWAT integrates clinically governed aquatic therapy into village-owned natural springs (umbul) in Klaten, Central Java. These springs are deeply embedded in local social and cultural life, making them ideal venues for community-based healthcare delivery.

Unlike conventional rehabilitation programmes confined to hospital settings, SWAT brings structured aquatic therapy directly into familiar community spaces. The programme harnesses the therapeutic properties of water to improve mobility, balance, and functional wellbeing, particularly amongst older adults and individuals with musculoskeletal limitations.

What distinguishes SWAT is its hybrid governance model. Clinical protocols, safety standards, and training are overseen by the hospital, whilst village governments and local communities coordinate implementation. This shared ownership strengthens both credibility and long-term sustainability.

Over a period of 15 months, the programme has operated across three village-based natural springs, engaging 102 participants. Approximately 78% consistently attended more than three-quarters of scheduled sessions, and 72% reported improvements in mobility and ease of movement.

Designed to be adaptive, the initiative incorporates continuous evaluation and stakeholder feedback. Its model also offers strong replication potential for other regions with similar natural resources.

The dual recognition at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2026 underscores Soeradji Tirtonegoro Hospital’s comprehensive approach to healthcare transformation. Through Smart Hospital Indonesia, the hospital is shaping the future of intelligent, data-driven clinical care. Through SWAT, it is redefining how wellness services can be embedded within community life.
