RSUP dr. Kariadi secures triple win at Healthcare Asia Awards 2026

It won distinctions for advancing public health literacy, strengthening geriatric care, and improving cost efficiency.

RSUP dr. Kariadi received three honours at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2026, winning Health Promotion Initiative of the Year - Indonesia, Specialty Hospital of the Year (Geriatrics) - Indonesia, and Management Innovation of the Year - Indonesia. The recognition reflected the hospital’s integrated approach to public education, specialised elderly care, and operational efficiency across its inpatient services.

Transforming health literacy through structured digital outreach

The Health Promotion Initiative of the Year - Indonesia recognised a two-year health promotion programme implemented from 2024 to 2025. During this period, 212 structured educational activities were conducted, generating more than 2.18 million engagements. Digital channels formed a major component of outreach, supported by 67,200 Instagram followers, 19,100 TikTok followers, and 35,800 YouTube subscribers.

Educational themes were mapped from patient feedback, service input, and identified operational gaps. When recurring concerns were recorded, targeted content was produced to clarify procedures, screening pathways, and preventive measures. Topics included maternal health, chronic disease management, cancer care, nutrition, mental health, and preventive medicine. Monitoring relied on monthly activity reports and platform analytics to measure reach and interaction levels.

Strengthening geriatric services through fall risk prevention

Specialty Hospital of the Year (Geriatrics) - Indonesia was awarded for the Fall Clinic in Geriatric Services. The clinic applied a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment to evaluate intrinsic and extrinsic fall risk factors amongst older adults. Assessments covered medical history, physical examination, diagnostic testing, medication review, gait and balance analysis, cognitive screening, hearing and vision evaluation, and activities of daily living.

The clinic shifted focus towards the preventive management of fall risk in elderly patients. Early identification of contributing factors reduced the likelihood of repeat incidents and supported maintenance of functional independence. The approach aligned with international fall prevention guidance and emphasised structured evaluation over episodic treatment.

Driving cost efficiency through coordinated inpatient discharge

Management Innovation of the Year - Indonesia recognised EMPING - Efficiency of the Lunch for D-1 Discharged Patients. The initiative introduced a coordination protocol between nurses and the nutrition unit for patients scheduled for discharge before 12:00 pm the following day. Previously, lunch was still prepared despite early discharge, resulting in avoidable costs.

Cost efficiency per patient was calculated at IDR28,900.00, covering lunch, dinner, and one snack. Across 38 successfully implemented cases, total savings reached IDR1,098,200.00, with an average monthly efficiency of IDR366,066.00. Following implementation in Rajawali 2A ward, the protocol was adopted across 11 wards within the Rajawali Building Unit, standardising communication between nurses and nutrition teams.
