PT Siloam International Hospitals Tbk wins for early discharge innovation at Healthcare Asia Awards 2026

The hospital network implemented a structured discharge process that enhanced hospital capacity management.

PT Siloam International Hospitals Tbk received an accolade in the Service Delivery Innovation Initiative of the Year - Indonesia category at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2026 for its initiative titled “Creating Hope by Unlocking Beds Through Early Discharge Procedures.” The programme addressed a hospital capacity issue linked to delayed inpatient discharge, which limited bed availability, slowed admissions, and contributed to congestion in emergency departments.

The initiative introduced a structured discharge model that repositioned patient discharge as a planned clinical milestone rather than a last-day administrative step. Planning began one day before the scheduled discharge date. Doctors confirmed discharge decisions in advance, whilst nurses prepared medication reconciliation, discharge documentation, and patient readiness. Administrative teams processed billing and insurance pre-settlement prior to the discharge day, allowing rooms to become available earlier once patients left the hospital.

An integrated inpatient monitoring and bed management system supported the process by providing real-time visibility of patient admissions, discharge status, and room availability. Doctors, hospitalists, nurses, pharmacy teams, ward clerks, and front office staff worked under a shared discharge timeline. The coordinated workflow reduced manual tracking and strengthened operational coordination across departments.

Operational improvements followed implementation across hospital units. Early discharge rates rose from 38.88% in the first quarter of 2025 to 61.29% in the fourth quarter of the same year. Emergency department boarding time for inpatient beds declined from 422 minutes to 165 minutes. Waiting time for elective admissions decreased from 249 minutes to 69 minutes, allowing operating theatre schedules to proceed with fewer disruptions.

Earlier room availability also affected workforce operations. Bed turnover increased whilst patient throughput rose across hospital units without additional beds or staff expansion. Workload distribution across shifts became more balanced, which reduced overtime and operational delays during peak admission periods.

The programme continues to operate across multiple hospital units and specialties within the network. Continuous monitoring, cross-functional coordination, and system integration allow adjustments to workflows as patient needs and operational conditions evolve.
