AI training targets 50,000 doctors in India to strengthen medical skills
Over 42,000 doctors have already registered.
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched a national online training programme on artificial intelligence (AI) in medical education aimed at equipping nearly 50,000 doctors across India with digital skills for modern healthcare delivery.
The course, developed by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), will provide doctors with basic training in AI applications for clinical practice, diagnostics, decision-making, research and medical teaching.
Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Smt. Anupriya Patel said over 42,000 doctors have already registered, calling the initiative timely as India tackles rising non-communicable diseases and tuberculosis.
She said AI can help move healthcare from reactive treatment to preventive care and stressed that technology should support doctors rather than replace them.
Patel added that the adoption of AI must follow ethical and accountable practices to protect patients, whilst congratulating NBEMS for leading the effort.
