SCH launches humanoid robot to support dementia patients

Dexie communicates in English, Mandarin, Malay, and several Chinese dialects.

SingHealth Community Hospitals (SCH) has introduced a social humanoid robot that supports cognitive stimulation and engagement for dementia patients.

Dexie, developed in partnership with Dex-Lab and Goshen Consultancy Services, communicates in English, Mandarin, Malay, and various Chinese dialects.

Moreover, it leads upper body exercises, facilitates cognitive games, converses with patients, and conducts musical activities.

During the technology’s pilot phase, 28 patients were observed and evaluated, of whomst 79% had dementia or cognitive impairment. Each patient completed at least six therapy sessions led by Dexie.

SCH has extended its use to other patient groups beyond dementia care since its pilot.
