New SG app identifies early memory problems in seniors

The PENSIEVE-AI app recorded 93% accuracy in a nationwide study.

Singapore General Hospital and the Government Technology Agency of Singapore have developed a digital drawing application to identify seniors with early memory problems, also known as pre-dementia.

The PENSIEVE-AI app recorded 93% accuracy in a nationwide study involving nearly 1,800 seniors aged 65 and above.

The app features four drawing tasks completed on a touch-screen tablet using a stylus, including drawing shapes and a clock to assess different areas of thinking and memory.

Meanwhile, the app’s artificial intelligence analyses these drawings for early signs of pre-dementia.

In Singapore, about 1 in 8 seniors has pre-dementia, and about 1 in 11 has dementia.
