SNUH completes full-scale hospital system migration in South Korea

About 30 core systems were migrated and virtualised.

Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) has completed South Korea’s first full-scale migration of core hospital systems to an external Internet Data Center (IDC), establishing a private cloud based on a Software-Defined Data Center architecture.

Approximately 30 core systems were migrated and virtualised, including the hospital information system and picture archiving communication system.

According to SNUH, the relocation of the hospital’s in-house data centre to an external IDC enabled the repurposing of high-value physical space into four new operating rooms.

The migration was executed in three structured phases—basic design, implementation, and stabilisation.

The migration involved a combination of methods, including Unix-to-Linux conversions, physical-to-virtual transitions, and virtual-to-virtual migrations. Major systems were migrated sequentially without changes to physical IP addresses.
