KKH unveils Singapore’s first dedicated clinic for flat head syndrome
The clinic offers helmet therapy for moderate to severe cases.
KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital has launched Singapore’s first specialised clinic for flat head syndrome, also known as plagiocephaly and brachycephaly.
The new ‘PlagioCentre’ will assess infants with head shape abnormalities to determine the severity of their condition. For mild cases, treatment typically involves physiotherapy and monitoring.
Meanwhile, helmet therapy may be recommended for infants under eight months with moderate to severe cases.
The helmets are custom-made using 3D scans of each infant’s head and are designed to gently guide head growth by applying targeted pressure whilst allowing expansion in the flattened areas.
The clinic is supported by a multidisciplinary team including specialists in neonatology, physiotherapy, and orthotics.
