The Medical City unveils advanced DNA testing facility in new partnership

Services include triSure NIPT, SPOT-MAS, and oncoGS.

Philippines’ The Medical City (TMC) has partnered with biotech firm Gene Solutions to establish a next-generation sequencing facility in Ortigas, offering advanced DNA testing for cancer and prenatal screening.

Amongst the services available are triSure NIPT, a non-invasive prenatal test that screens for common genetic conditions such as Down syndrome, and SPOT-MAS, a blood test that detects tumour DNA in the bloodstream to support early cancer detection.

The hospital also offers oncoGS, a test that identifies which treatments are most effective for cancer patients based on their tumour’s unique genetic makeup.

Prior to this development, samples had to be sent to Gene Solutions’ labs in Singapore and Vietnam, leading to longer wait times and higher logistics costs, said Gene Solutions Philippines Director, Mary Josephine Rapadas.

“We are confident that this collaboration will bring significant benefits and greater accessibility to Filipino patients,” Rapadas added.

The services will be available at other TMC hospitals and clinics nationwide, with all DNA samples processed locally at the Ortigas laboratory.
