Bagan Specialist Centre wins at Healthcare Asia Awards 2025 for green-friendly facilities improvement

Its improvement initiatives provide a harmonious blend of aesthetics, sustainability, wholeheartedness, and patient-centric care.

Bagan Specialist Centre won the Facilities Improvement Initiative of the Year - Malaysia category at the highly sought-after Healthcare Asia Awards 2025 for its transformative initiatives aimed at improving its facilities through the promotion of a green-friendly atmosphere that integrates seamlessly with patient care.

Healing through nature: A therapeutic environment

Bagan Specialist Centre is more than just a hospital, it’s a purpose-built therapeutic environment designed to support patient healing through thoughtful architecture and natural elements. The building welcomes natural light into its structure, creating a sense of openness and warmth. Landscaping is incorporated into common areas to cool and filter the air, offering a soothing atmosphere conducive to recovery.

Recognising the vital role of nature in the healing process, the hospital features lush planter boxes on every level, with trees and herbs like piper sarmentosum thoughtfully positioned around the courtyard and grounds. From the courtyard at the ground floor, visitors can gaze upwards to see trailing greenery and towering trees, fully immersing themselves in a serene natural setting.

Additionally, the hospital provides numerous open-air seating areas, particularly appreciated by elderly patients who prefer fresh air over air-conditioned environments. These tranquil corners serve as quiet sanctuaries for patients and their families to rest, connect with nature, and find comfort in a peaceful setting.

Solar power for a more sustainable future

In 2024, another milestone for Bagan Specialist Centre was the installation of solar panels across the entire hospital, marking a major leap forward in sustainability and energy efficiency. This strategic move reduces dependence on conventional power sources and actively minimises the hospital’s carbon footprint.

The initiative not only lowers operating costs but also sets a green benchmark for other healthcare providers in the region. It underscores the hospital’s long-term commitment to responsible environmental stewardship, showing how innovation and care can work hand in hand.

Giving back to the community

Bagan Specialist Centre’s dedication to ESG does not stop within its walls. In a significant CSR initiative, the hospital transformed the field in front of its building into Taman Rekreasi Bagan by Bagan Specialist Centre, a public park complete with a full-size football field and recreational park.

This recreational park reflects the hospital’s broader mission of promoting health beyond clinical care. By offering a space for physical activity, social interaction, and overall well-being, the park provides an inclusive environment where the surrounding community can enjoy outdoor activities and embrace a healthy lifestyle.

“All of the effort in bringing our hospital is not just beautification but also bringing a healing environment to our patients and sharing space with the community. Not only that, we also strive to align with the principles of ESG, reflecting our pursuit of excellence in a sustainable and responsible way,” the company said.

The Healthcare Asia Awards continues to honour hospitals across the region that redefine industry standards through innovative, community-driven, and environmentally conscious initiatives—principles that Bagan Specialist Centre has seamlessly woven into every aspect of its growth.
