Dexcom Malaysia honoured at Healthcare Asia Medtech Awards 2025

The company’s Trinity Vertical Link was commended for transforming the manufacturing process through an automated vertical link and robotic arms.

Dexcom Malaysia earned the Initiative Award - Malaysia at the Healthcare Asia Medtech Awards 2025, a testament to the exemplary results its Trinity Vertical Link has delivered.

The company used an automated vertical link and robotic arms to transform product handling and dramatically improve efficiency and productivity across the board. This system has a vertical conveyor that transports products from Level 2 to Level 1, and robotic arms that simultaneously pick up multiple units. It covers an 8-metre distance to lower them to Level 1 efficiently.

This project is eyeing to bring automation into key areas of the company’s manufacturing process. Amongst the expected outcomes were to reduce operational costs, boost productivity, and improve workplace ergonomics. Aiming to hit these goals, Dexcom Malaysia developed a phased strategy, beginning with pilot projects to test the system's effectiveness before full-scale implementation.

The system is powered by state-of-the-art robotic arms and operates with exceptional precision and speed. It handles repetitive and physically demanding tasks, an implementation that reduces the risk of human error and prevents workplace injuries.

This automation reduces manual labour, hence making significant savings on labour costs. It also operates 24/7 without fatigue and consistently produces around 8,000 units per hour with faster cycle times. This allowed the company to meet increasing demand whilst maintaining high-quality standards.

Moreover, one of the challenges in transferring products between Level 2 (ISO 8 Cleanroom) and Level 1 (Controlled Non-Classified Area) was the manual handling and cleaning of trays. The automation solution eliminates the need for manual tray cleaning. This change will result in 1.5 million fewer trays requiring manual cleaning each year, which lowers the consumption of cleaning agents like IPA, contributing to a more sustainable operation and a positive environmental impact.

Additionally, the automated system is combined with the fire alarm system to ensure complete compartmentalisation of the facility without sacrificing efficiency. In the event of a fire, the system automatically isolates affected sections.
This innovative automation system is a game-changer for Dexcom Malaysia’s manufacturing operations, driving greater efficiency, productivity, and sustainability.
