Turkey’s medical tourism market to reach $3.48b by 2029

Inbound medical tourism currently dominates the outbound segment.

Turkey’s medical tourism market, valued at $1.89b in 2023, is projected to hit $3.48b by 2029 at a compound annual growth rate of 10.51%, according to Research and Markets.

The sector’s expansion is attributed to healthcare services at competitive prices, proximity to Europe and the Middle East, and the country’s cultural and historical heritage.

By type, the inbound segment is currently dominating outbound medical tourism, supported by accredited hospitals, skilled healthcare professionals, and medical specialities offerings such as cosmetic surgery and fertility treatments.

“Government initiatives promoting medical tourism and streamlined visa procedures further facilitate the influx of international patients seeking specialised healthcare services in Turkey,” the report said.

However, the sector may face challenges in coordinating post-operative care, managing treatment outcomes, and providing ongoing support for patients returning home.

“Effective communication between healthcare providers, patients, and referring physicians is crucial,” it added.
