Japan, Korea, US announce $29m partnership for BARMM healthcare

The funding is in addition to existing assistance provided by the three development agencies.

Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the US have signed a partnership committing $29m (Php1.6b) over five years to enhance health outcomes and advance universal health care in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Philippines.

The funding supplements existing forms of assistance provided by the three development agencies.

Under the Memorandum of Cooperation, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the Korea International Cooperation Agency, and the United States Agency for International Development will collaborate with BARMM’s Ministry of Health, the Philippines’ Department of Health, local communities, and other key stakeholders.

The collaboration will focus on improving health information systems, increasing public health financing, promoting good public health practices, expanding healthcare services, and improving access to essential medicines, facilities, and equipment.

The partnership will also provide training and support to local governments and communities to expand health outreach to vulnerable populations.
