Australia to establish new palliative care unit in Central Coast

The new facility will feature 12 palliative care bedrooms with ensuites.

Australia is set to develop a new palliative care unit in the Wyong Hospital campus for the central coast community.

The upcoming facility is part of the government’s $62.3m (AU$93m) allocation for capital investment in the End of Life Care programme to deliver new or redeveloped palliative care facilities.

The new unit will be located in an existing building at the campus’ eastern end and is set to feature 12 palliative care bedrooms with ensuites, communal areas, meeting spaces, and flexible outdoor spaces.

Moreover, the facility’s schematic design has been completed with an artist’s impression of the new unit unveiled to the community.

“The NSW Government is committed to ensuring people with life-limiting illnesses receive the highest quality end-of-life care at the right time, and in the right place,” Health Minister, Ryan Park, said.

“The new dedicated palliative care unit at Wyong will provide a purpose-built space for palliative care staff to deliver care and support to patients and families during what can be an extremely difficult time for all involved,” Park added.

The facility’s construction timeframe will be confirmed once its detailed design phase reaches completion and a builder has been appointed.
